The Relevant Library: Essays on Adapting to Changing Needs



Hello, Everyone!

This is an announcement that McFarland just published a book entitled The Relevant Library: Essays on Adapting to Changing Needs edited by Vera Gubnitskaiahttps://mcfarlandbooks.com/newly-published-the-relevant-library/.  It consists of 34 essays divided into nine parts.   Mary Beth Riedner (IGARD Membership Chair) co-wrote one of the essays entitled “Becoming a Dementia-Friendly Library” with Karen Maki and Miriam Lytle.  The chapter is included in Part VI – Expanding Accessibility. 

The chapter focuses on the practical aspects of designing and implementing the Tales & Travel Memories program which originated at the Gail Borden Public Library in Elgin, IL., including the following topics:

    • Demographics and Statistics
    • Nursing Homes, Assisted Living Facilities and Adult Day Programs

IGARD hopes that this essay might serve as another stimulus for libraries everywhere to begin offering programs and services for those living with dementia!
